Domaine de Montvac

Vacqueyras

Domaine de Montvac has been handed down from mother to daughter since 1860. Cécile Dusserre, of the family’s 5th generation, was the first to vinify her own wine. She found her style by choreographing the Vacqueyras terroirs into wines that are both inspired and acclaimed. “I’ve had complete freedom and I’m giving the same to my daughter… with a love of the craft! It’s down to her to write the next chapter. Montvac is not set in stone. She’ll bring her own sensibility to it, a sensibility that is asserting itself.” Amélie Cartoux is already making her first wines, having learnt about the vineyard work from her father and the winery work from her mother. As Cécile had done before her with ballet, Amélie has developed her winemaking personality by drawing on her other passion: horse riding. The same patience, discipline and finesse are essential to running the estate. “Montvac’s potential for expression is vast, thanks to the correlations and many possible blends of grape varieties and soils. Every year is a new beginning in which we will constantly strive to do things better to create a wonderful story in every bottle.

Vineyards

25 ha with 20 ha AOC VACQUEYRAS, 3 ha AOC GIGONDAS, 2 ha AOC CÔTES DU RHÔNE
The entire domaine is managed organically with Ecocert certification. The vines grow in harmony with nature to develop their finest qualities and provide our wines with complexity and a unique character.

Cellar

Harvested by hand, rigorous sorting in the vineyard, total destemming, temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. 20 to 30-day vatting period and ageing in concrete tanks.

Wines

VACQUEYRAS • Mélodine White: Clairette (40%), Roussanne (40%), Bourboulenc (10%), Viognier (10%). Vinified and aged in 1/2 muids for 11 months on the fine lees without stirring (bâtonnage) – Arabesque: Patchwork of different plots located throughout the AOC.
The diversity of the terroirs, the balance of elegance and the harmony of the flavours are the result of the complementary blend of 3 grape varietals: 70% Grenache, 25% Syrah and 5% Mourvèdre. • Vincila: A selection of very old plots of 60% Grenache and 40% Syrah from our iconic Fontimple terroir located on the Font des Papes cone. • Variation: The elegance of the Grenache. A small plot of vines planted in 1946, bordered by pine trees sheltering it from the destructive blasts of Mistral wind, bush-trained old vines producing a few well-aired bunches on a terroir of clayey sand and marl. • GIGONDAS – Adage: Grenache (70%), Syrah (25%), Mourvèdre (5%). The vines are located in a small Oligocene valley on the steep slopes of the Dentelles de Montmirail. The terroir consists of red marl with outcrops of limestone and gypsum. Our vines are planted on terraces and enjoy a microclimate that is ideal for the ripening of our grape varieties.
CÔTES DU RHÔNE – Red and Rosé.
